There are cushioned beer kegs for chairs and a roaring open fire. The barn was converted into a bar in the 1950s. It is warm, inviting and the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the lakes. First for its location – a secluded location amidst the falls overlooking Ulcewater, and second for its unique, rustic on-site bar. It’s also a great site for people going on vacation with their pets as there is plenty of outdoor space, a dog exercise area, and a dedicated dog wash.

The on-site restaurant and tea room, with outdoor balconies, comes highly recommended and serves breakfast (anything from cereal and coffee to full English) and evening meals. Some pitches have lake views while others are situated between trees and fences. The site only caters for families and couples. It’s just a mile and a half from the city center, set in an elevated position with panoramic views of Derwentwater and Basenthwaite Lake, against the backdrop of the surrounding falls. If you want to live within two miles of the bustling market town of Keswick, yet surrounded by gorgeous Lakeland scenery, Castlerigg Hall is the place. Shepherd’s View amenities include electric hook-ups, a unisex convenience building with privacy rooms, a toilet and shower with a wetroom for the disabled, and a laundry area. Local shops and facilities are available just over a mile away from Seascale. A selection of pitches are available, with a backdrop of the Wasdale Hills and canyons. There are plenty of cycling routes in the local area for all abilities, from country streets to extreme mountain biking. The location of the campsite is ideal for keen cyclists as it is close to the start of the Hadrian Cycleway which runs from Ravenglass to South Shields and passes through the site’s entrance. The site may not technically be within the Lake District National Park, but it is in a great location-close to both the Lakeland Mountains and the coast-but away from the tourist crowds of the more traditional Lake District. On-site amenities include electric hook-ups, toilets and showers, a laundry, children’s play area, and Wi-Fi. This club site is an excellent central point for exploring the entire national park – the walking is incomparable and bird watchers will not be disappointed, especially in Grizzdale Forest. You can easily walk or cycle to Coniston Village (about a 15-minute bike ride). There are several cafes and pubs within walking distance with the Ship Inn that are both kid and dog friendly. Coniston Pier is just a mile away and also offers steamboat rides and boat rentals on the Coniston Gondola.
A short 400-yard walk will take you to the edge of the lake and a launching point for dinghys, windsurfing and canoeing. Coniston Park Coppice is located on 63 acres of National Trust woodland close to Coniston Water.
